Yarn used

- James C Brett Flutterby Chunky (3 colours)
- Small amount of medium weight pink/ black yarn for nostrils

Other items used

- US G/ 4.25mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Poly fill
- Safety eyes
- Stitch markers (optional)
*Please note that safety eyes are NOT recommended for children under the age of 3 years.

Abbreviations and stitches

• MR: Magic ring
• St(s): Stitch(es)
• SC: Single crochet
• Ch: Chain stitch
• Sk: skip a stitch
• Sl st: Slip stitch
• HDC: Half Double Crochet
• HDC inc: Half Double Crochet Increase (Stitch 2 HDC into the stitch)
• Inc: Increase (Stitch 2 SC into the stitch)
• Dec: SC decrease using the invisible method
• (...) x n: Repeat instructions in brackets n times




Body

R1: 6 SC in a MR
R2: 6 inc (12)
R3: (SC, inc) x 6 (18)
R4: (2SC, inc) x 6 (24)
R5: (3SC, inc) x 6 (30)
R6: (4SC, inc) x 6 (36)
R7: (5SC, inc) x 6 (42)
R8: (6SC, inc) x 6 (48)
R9-17: 48SC (9 rounds)
R18: (6SC, dec) x 6 (42)
R19: (5SC, dec) x 6 (36)
Place safety eyes between R9 and R10, about 8 sts apart
R20: (4SC, dec) x 6 (30)

Close and cut the yarn. Sew the hole closed.

Snout

R1: Ch 6, SC in 2nd ch from hook, 3SC, 3SC into last st,

Sl st to close, and cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing

Ears - Make 2 (One in each colour)

R1: 6 SC in a MR (6)
R2: (SC, inc) x 3 (9)
R3: (2SC, inc) x 3 (12)
R4-5: 12 SC
R6: (2SC, dec) x 3 (9)
Sl st to close. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing


Spots - Make 2

R1: 6 SC in a MR
R2: 6 inc (12)
R3: (SC, inc) x 6 (18)
R4: (2SC, inc) x 6 (24)
R5: (3SC, inc) x 6 (30)
R6: (Inc, HDC Inc, inc, 2 sl st) x 6 (48)
Sl st to close. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing

Horns - Make 2

R1: 5SC in a MR
R2-3: 5 SC
Sl st to close. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing




Assembly

- Sew the snout between the eyes
- Sew the spots in place (top left and bottom right)
- Sew the ears and horns on to the head
- Embroider the nostrils
- Embroider the inner ear with white yarn if desired

  1. Does this take an entire skein of flutterby or could you get 2 cows out of it?

    1. So it depends... If you want to make two cows you will have to look at how much yarn is provided

  2. Depending on your tension, you could probably get 2 cows out of 1 skein. I use about half a skein per cow.
